ABOUT ME
My name is Jim Walsh. I grew up in Illinois where I first started collecting arrowheads at the age of 12. I have been collecting for over 35 years.
I "cut my teeth" hunting the Silver Creek bottoms in Madison County, Illinois. I had the pleasure of hunting with Pete Bostrum on many occasions. I gained very much from his vast knowledge of Midwestern Indians, flint work and history.
I have continued to study Midwestern Indian artifacts over the years and have gathered and purchased all available reference material to date.
I feel that over the years I have handled and examined many types and styles of midwestern flint and artifacts so that I have a good working knowledge of what real artifacts should look like from flaking to flint types. I believe I am able to spot reproductions through my method of determining authenticity using a 10x to 200x power microscope and Ultra violet and black light analysis.
I feel it is important that when people purchase an artifact, they have an outlet where they can send it to be authenticated without spending a fortune. I believe that authentication is basicly an opinion. The service I am offering is my opinion as to whether the piece is authentic or reproduction. I will not authenticate a point that I am not completely sure of. On points I can not authenticate, I will explain my reasons for believing the point is modern made.
I decided to offer Certificates of Authenticity after evaluating a friend's collection. He was able to sell many of his points without any problems or returns. At this time I will not authenticate bannerstones, bone, shell or beads.
